Colloquia Dinner Policy

The colloquia in the Department of Political Science are organized, managed, and run by members of the department's PhD candidate program. While the colloquia are funded by the department, all budgets and discretionary expenditures are subject to the approval of the managing graduate students. As such, there are policies regarding the funding of meals with colloquia visiting speakers:

  • No meal with a colloquia visiting speaker will be funded by said colloquia unless at least two graduate students are present at the meal.
  • There should be no more than five total attendees to a speaker dinner unless prior approval has been received from the Chair in writing.
  • The colloquia will not purchase, and the department will not reimburse, any alcohol at a meal with a colloquia visiting speaker. Alcohol can be purchased on a separate bill at an individual's discretion.
  • Dinners should not exceed a cost of $50 per person, tax included. Tips cannot be more than 20% if eating at a restaurant and 10% if catering in, but are in addition to the per-person limit. Please email Corey Dawson ([email protected]) with any questions.
  • All expenses for which a reimbursement is expected should only be made by department faculty or the student organizers for their given colloquium.
